What is a Robot Operator?

A cell operator is the first responder to fault condition in an automation cell within our production system. Cell Ops monitor and observe the whole process. When faults occur, an operator reviews the information available on the HMI and reacts accordingly. An operator must understand the entire process, whether fully or partially automated. They are skilled in both the technical aspects & the quality requirements of the process/product.

  • Perform troubleshooting and make minor mechanical repairs/adjustments. Assist maintenance & engineering in complex problem solving & efficiency improvements.
  • Perform all related functions related to a role as an operator, included but not limited to loading parts and 5S activities.
  • Utilize a high level of analytical skill to find solutions to difficult technical problems, using electronic systems and computer-based systems.
  • Willing to work rotating shifts.

The most preferred candidate for this role is someone that has some formal training or education in automation, robotics, electronics or advanced manufacturing course curriculum with an emphasis on automation / robotics.

Requirements / Skills

  • Successful completion of any high school or community college instructed Automation / Robotics program or Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) certification training, which includes the following modules: Safety, Production Technician, Quality Measurement and Maintenance Awareness with an emphasis placed on robotics and automation.
  • Or at least 2 years of experience in a technical role, specifically related to electronics, automation, advanced manufacturing, robotics or engineering technology.

Preferred Education: Certificate level or above in the following:

  • Electrical Technology (ELT)
  • Industrial Electronics (ILT)
  • Robotics Technology
  • Industrial Maintenance (INT)
  • Manufacturing Technology (AUT)
  • Advanced Manufacturing (ADM)
  • Advanced Automotive Technology – Electrical Focus
  • Engineering technology
  • Or other related technology

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with robotic systems.
  • Experience with PLC systems.
  • Experience with mechanical systems repair.
