Premium UpdateMBUSI and retirees share the cost of retiree medical coverage, which is driven by several factors: the collective amount of health care used by plan members, the cost of medical care, prescription drug prices, and administrative expenses. The U.S. has seen medical costs rise faster than other inflation-impacted categories like groceries and gas. We’ve also seen drug prices skyrocket, especially in the past year. These trends directly impact the cost of health insurance, which often pays out more than it takes in. |
|
MBUSI has committed to maintaining the same financial support for 2026 as we’ve provided in previous years. The specific amount that MBUSI pays toward your medical plan cost is determined by retiree’s earned points, which equals age at retirement + years of service, and a predetermined contribution cap, which ensures financial sustainability for our company. MBUSI will continue to pay a significant percentage of your health insurance premiums, but because MBUSI’s contribution is capped and healthcare expenses continue to increase, the amount that retirees pay for premiums will need to increase. |
