At Mercedes-Benz we are proud to touch the lives of so many families in Alabama. Take the Bester family. Bayaka Bester joined MBUSI in 1997, working first in the Paint Shop, then Body Shop, and now Engineering. Over the years he has traveled the globe with MBUSI, but Alabama was always home. Three years ago, that phrase took on new meaning when Bayaka was joined at MBUSI by his son, Bayaka Jr., a recent graduate of our Maintenance Apprenticeship program. Today, both are Full-Time Team Members, continuing the family tradition. Like father, like son.
MBUSI - 20th Celebration
More than two decades ago, Daimler AG surprised the world when it chose to put down roots in Tuscaloosa County. That decision has paid off—for all of us. Today Mercedes-Benz is responsible for more than 24,500 jobs—both here at our plant in Vance and through our suppliers across the region. With an annual economic impact of more than $1.5 billion, our success in Alabama has paved the way for many other automakers to call the South their home, too. We’ve invested $4.5 billion in our Alabama plant and we’re in the midst of another $1.3 billion plant expansion. We look back with pride at what we’ve accomplished, and look forward to all the possibilities yet to come.
Building a world-class vehicle takes attention to detail, dedication, and hard work. Mercedes-Benz Team Members bring that same energy and passion to building homes for deserving families in Alabama through our partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Just this past year, we built an entire house from scratch – a first for the company. Over the past decade, we have contributed more than $10 million to meet local community needs, with hundreds of Team Members giving their time and energy to important causes. From the YMCA to local food banks, Adopt-A-School to the Mercedes Marathon, our Team Members are committed to giving back to the community. Our community.
Mercedes-Benz is located in one of the most beautiful areas in the South, and we are obliged to protect it. Managing water consumption. Safely dealing with hazardous waste. Controlling electricity and natural gas demand. Recycling whenever and whatever we can. Environmental stewardship is a corporate promise we make to our Team Members, our customers, and our neighbors in Tuscaloosa County. Mercedes-Benz has joined with community groups like Black Warrior River Keeper to ensure we fulfill that promise, and our Team Members volunteer their time and energy to make it a success. Together, we are working to leave the world better than we found it. Starting right here at home.
Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc. is proud of our 20-year history in Alabama. Proud of our growing family of Team Members. Proud of our community involvement. And proud of our world-class vehicles.
At MBUSI we are committed to making a tangible impact on our economy, community, workforce, and environment, but above all, we are dedicated to driving forward and giving back. Together, we are working to make Alabama a more caring, more connected, and more prosperous place to live.
